About Susan
"I can't dance - but I can teach Nia"
What sort of person is Susan Rees ?
I am 59. Not originally of fitness background - its incredible I find myself teaching Nia at all. I am now a certified Nia Teacher and Nia Black Belt, teaching for 6 years in Scotland.
Ever felt a clux at a class ?
Ever felt alienated from posing or extreme hard-pushing mentality. Just want to feel fitter and enjoy it ?
This is where I am, and it would be a privilege if you would allow me to show you how Nia is different in that respect.
I don't see myself at a 'fitness teacher' - I am a Nia Teacher - I only teach Nia - because it is the only thing I want to do!
I wanted more Nia and so I trained - simple as that. It not my 'job', its not just another class I teach - its my passion - when I am not teaching Nia I am usually preparing, doing my personal Nia practice or listening to Nia music!
I now teach 3-4 classes a week in the triangle formed by Stirling, Dunblane and Perth - AND NOW ONLINE ON ZOOM ALSO - simply because I want more people who were turned off by the fitness "industry" obsession with hard-assed grim fitness to boom boom music - to experience the difference that is Nia.
Read my story here.
2013 stumbled across Nia at a studio in Stirling where I did Yoga (although I confess Yoga didn't especially thrill me)
2013 went on to Nia's worldwide website to purchase a CD (remember those?) of some Nia routine music - as I loved the particular routine I was doing with my teacher so much
whilst I was there I noticed the Nia foundation training course (also known at the 'White Belt'). I noticed in passing that it wasn't just for teachers.
December 2014 hit rock bottom with stress from looking after my elderly mum in my own home + my family - my husband said 'you need to get away'
In December 2014 attended Nia Foundation training in London as a 'holiday' as anyone can do this course (you don't have to plan to teach) -- I never planned to teach! - now you can do it weekly online - and several of my class members have taken it and loved it in the past year - they did it just for their own health and to increase their enjoyment in Nia.)
Came back wanting to teach, studied and substituted for other teachers for a few months
Started first class of my own in Stirling June 2015, and soon after that Perth daytime, Dunblane evening and Dunblane daytime. In recent years I also taught at St Madoes too.
Took more and more Nia personal practice trainings as I love the technique behind Nia. Taught 4-5 classes a week
2020 Covid hit -- zoom classes added -- and still loving them and still going strong. A few sporadic returns to in-person and back at Perth & Dunblane eve Sept 2021
Still loving my Nia and still wanting to share with more people!
Now back to teaching 2 classes in studios and 1 zoom class + I now offer a special service designed for those who need classes at flexible times featuring an introductory at-home course and a way for them to still feel an integral part of classes even though they can't come each week or need to mix and match class venues and or zoom. Its called 'Associated Class Member' (no monthly payment - don't worry). Anyway ask me about it if you are interested!
SEPTEMBER 2023: Added NEW In-person Classes - it looks like the post-covid doldrums are going away. NEW classes are: Sunday Nia occasional (mostly in Perth), and Wed evenings in Menstrie -- in a castle - a castle!!! Thrilled with it all and still LOVING teaching Nia!
